Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia correction is a procedure that removes excess breast tissue in men, sculpting a flatter, and more typically masculine chest to achieve natural, confidence-boosting results.

Gynecomastia

Overview

Many men struggle with excess breast tissue, known as gynecomastia, even if they maintain a healthy lifestyle. Hormonal changes, genetics, weight fluctuations, or certain medications are among the factors that can cause this condition and lead many men to feel self-conscious. Gynecomastia surgery, or male breast reduction, removes excess fat and glandular tissue to create a flatter, more masculine chest contour. In some cases, we use liposuction alongside tissue removal for optimal results. This surgery can help you feel more comfortable in your body, especially when diet and exercise alone haven’t.

About the Procedure

What are Gynecomastia Surgeries Done?

Many men choose gynecomastia correction to improve their physical appearance and boost self-confidence. We can help alleviate both the physical and emotional discomfort this condition causes. A surgical procedure can:

  • Reduce the discomfort and pain caused by excess breast tissue.
  • Achieve a more masculine chest contour.
  • Overcome self-consciousness in social or intimate settings.
  • Help you feel more confident in fitted clothing and swimwear.

How Long Does Gynecomastia Correction Last?

Gynecomastia correction surgery provides long-lasting results. The glandular tissue and fat we remove typically does not grow back. And maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle can help preserve results. Weight gain, hormonal changes, or certain medications could potentially impact the chest contour over time, however. We recommend regular follow-ups to ensure you feel good about the way you look.

Who is a Good Candidate for Gynecomastia Correction?

You’re a good candidate for gynecomastia correction if you:

  • Have persistent excess breast tissue despite diet and exercise.
  • Have ruled out other medical interventions.
  • Are in good overall health and at a stable, healthy weight.
  • Have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the procedure.
  • Experience physical discomfort or emotional distress due to gynecomastia.

How to Prepare for a Gynecomastia Correction

Before your procedure, you’ll want to avoid smoking and limit alcohol intake before surgery — they can delay healing. You may also need to pause certain medications or supplements that can increase bleeding. Plan for your recovery by arranging time off work, and set up a comfortable space at home to rest post-procedure. We also recommend arranging for transportation and post-surgery care, as you’ll need assistance during the initial recovery.

What Happens During the Surgery?

Our goal with this procedure is to create a flatter, more masculine chest while keeping scarring as discreet as possible. The surgery begins with general anesthesia to ensure comfort. We make a small incision, usually around the edge of the areola or along the natural chest contour, to minimize visible scarring. Through this incision, we carefully remove excess glandular tissue, fat, and sometimes skin. Sometimes, if you need additional contouring, we’ll use liposuction to achieve a smooth, natural chest shape. Once we achieve the right contour, we suture and bandage the incision.

How Long Does It Take?

Gynecomastia is an outpatient procedure that typically lasts one to two hours. More complex procedures can last as long as four hours.

Risks

Gynecomastia surgery, like any surgical procedure, carries some risks. Potential complications include infection, bleeding, fluid accumulation, and scarring. Changes in nipple sensation—either increased or decreased—may occur, and in rare cases, sensation loss can be permanent. Partial or full loss of nipple tissue is another potential but rare outcome. Asymmetry or irregular contours are possible but can often be corrected with follow-up care.

Benefits

The benefits of gynecomastia correction extend beyond physical changes. It can enhance body proportions, boost confidence, and help individuals feel more aligned with their ideal self. By creating a more contoured and typically masculine profile, this procedure offers a personalized approach to feeling comfortable in your own skin.

Recovery

Recovery from gynecomastia surgery typically takes several weeks, with the initial phase focusing on reducing swelling and supporting healing. After surgery, we recommend wearing a compression garment to minimize swelling and help the chest conform to its new shape. Mild discomfort, bruising, and swelling are common in the first week but can be managed with pain medications. You should be able to return to light activities within a few days, but avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for four to six weeks. Our team will provide specific instructions on wound care, follow-up appointments, and any activity restrictions to ensure optimal healing and the best possible results.
