A Hispanic female patient presented with concerns regarding the appearance of her lower lip, which she believed contributed to an aged facial aesthetic. Her primary goal was to achieve a more youthful appearance through a lip lift procedure. Dr. Dorafshar conducted an in-office surgical intervention to address this concern. The procedure involved meticulously creating an incision along the natural crease just beneath the patient’s nose. This strategic placement of the incision is designed to optimize camouflage and minimize the visibility of any postoperative scarring. The core objective of this surgical technique was to shorten the vertical length of the skin above the upper lip, thereby creating a more balanced and youthful proportion between the upper and lower lips.
Furthermore, the procedure also aimed to evert the upper lip, meaning it was subtly rolled outward. This eversion enhances the visibility and fullness of the vermilion, or the red portion of the upper lip. The effect of this eversion is particularly noticeable and aesthetically pleasing when the patient smiles, resulting in a more prominent and attractive upper lip. The combined effects of shortening the cutaneous upper lip and everting the vermilion contribute to a rejuvenated and more youthful facial appearance, fulfilling the patient’s initial aesthetic goals.
